Workshop B: Implementing job autonomy to improve employee productivity and satisfaction

Workshop B: Implementing job autonomy to improve employee productivity and satisfaction

Friday 21 November, 12:30-15:30

In the face of tremendous global transformations, organisations and professionals everywhere are redesigning work to meet changing demands. Major industrial upheavals, economic crises, and geopolitical events are now commonplace, and employees are more psychologically, emotionally and financially strained than ever before.

Job autonomy refers to an employee’s ability to craft aspects of their role, granting them higher control over tasks, when and where tasks are completed, and how tasks are completed. When employees feel empowered and trusted, their motivation and satisfaction at work increases, and they are more committed to succeeding in their roles. Creating a sense of control allows employees to craft their work around what allows them to work at their best – and is essential for the modern organisation.

Building job autonomy is a challenge, however, and comes with many risks – poorly regulated jobs and lack of guidance can exacerbate the very issues it hopes to address. This workshop will help you implement job autonomy to increase employee engagement, motivation, satisfaction and productivity. You will explore the following:

  • Setting clear expectations and goals for employees to guide their work in line with organisational objectives
  • Ensuring the degree of autonomy granted is commensurate with employee skills
  • Enabling autonomy through strong organisational culture to encourage initiative and collaboration
  • Creating systems and strategies to provide feedback, guidance and support to address issues and improve performance
